The chants of "Kway-toe" still echo on the North Shore. The 2013 Wild Card Playoff game at PNC Park may have been a top five sporting event in the history of Pittsburgh. After starving for just a winning season, the Pirates, not only got into the postseason, but got to host a one game playoff. The crowd was deafening and the play was electric. A 6-2 win sent the Pirates into the next round and the playoff buzz continued.

Wednesday night, the Pirates have a chance to perhaps replicate the atmosphere that sent this town into a frenzy. It's another one game playoff and the stakes are equally as high as they were last year. One win, and the Pirates advance. A loss, and Pirates hit the golf course.
This team has reconnected the city with baseball yet again. There has always been a belief that "baseball is romantic" and it shows with this team and the city. We can only hope to rekindle that same feeling this year.

I watched the game versus the giants and it was blow out. I was upset that the Pirates could not pull of the win. The city of Pittsburgh were the biggest motivators in the Pirates plan to win the game. It was unfortunate that they couldn't pull of the win, but the city of Pittsburgh fans are alive again. I believe with the people of Pittsburgh behind their baseball team it will be very hard to beat them next year.
ReplyDeleteIt was a shame that the stadium died after Crawford's grand slam. A 4-0 game in the 4th inning is still a game, but Bumgarner threw very well. He attacked the zone early and got the hitters to chase his curveball with 2 strikes. Hopefully next year they can win the division and skip the wild card game altogether.
